Frequently Asked Questions
General
Q: What is Stargate Resistance
A: Stargate Resistance is a fast paced third person shooter (TPS) based on the Stargate TV franchise
Q: I remember the game servers went offline a few years ago, how is it possible to play now?
A: A small group of fans, working in secret from a hardened bunker deep under Detroit, have resurrected the game for all to enjoy.
Q: This website looks exactly like the old site. How can you use all this artwork?
A: We decided to reproduce everything almost exactly as it was before, to honor the original developers and staff of SGR. The person responsible for designing the SGR related websites gave us his permission to use his work for non-commercial purposes.
Q: Where are the servers hosted?
A: All servers are run by fans, there are no official servers. Anyone that can play the game can also host a server.
Q: How many players can play together on the same map?
A: Each team can be up to 8 players, so 16 total in a map.
Q: Is there friendly fire?
A: There is no friendly fire, however explosives can damage everyone, including yourself, so be careful.
Q: Can i earn ranks and achievements, and keep track of my stats?
A: Yes, we have created a new account system that allows players to create a game login and earn ranks and achievements. Stats for each match are saved in a database and can be viewed in-game on the classes tab, on the account site, and on the dedicated stats site.
Q: What is Galactic Domination?
A: Galactic Domination represents the continual struggle for control over the universe between the System Lords and the SGC. Each battle won increases your faction’s domination over that particular planet. If the battle is a landslide victory and you completely crush your opponents, you will receive more domination points than if your team barely wins by the skin of their teeth. If the balance in power for a particular battlefield is tipped greatly in your favor then you will receive bonuses while fighting there. If your faction manages to gain dominance over several planets then you will receive even greater bonuses.
Q: Is there any system in place to protect against cheaters?
A: There is no automatic cheat detection in SGR, so it's up to the players to help discourage the use of cheats and exploits. If you see someone using cheats on a server where cheats are not allowed, use the chat to kindly remind the player that it's against the rules. If they do not stop, then please save any evidence you can (screenshots) and report the player to an admin, and we will take appropriate action. Keep in mind that there are some servers where it's okay to use cheats, because it can be very fun if everyone can do it. Visit the server list to find which servers allow cheats.
Technical
Q: What are the minimum requirements to play SGR?
A: Windows XP/Vista/7/8, 1GB RAM, 2 GHz Processor, 512MB+ GFX Card, DirectX 9.0c, 3GB HD Space
Q: Do i need an internet connection to play?
A: Yes and no... You can play LAN matches without an internet connection by using console commands to directly connect to another machine on the same network. But to use the account system and play on servers that record stats you need a broadband internet connection.
Q: I have an error message when trying to start the game or a server.
A: Make sure you installed all the software in the prerequisites folder. Additionally, you will need to install an older version of PhysX. Version 8.10.29 seems to work in most cases.
Q: I haven't recieved the activation email.
A: Check your spam folder. If you definitely didn't recieve it, please contact us
Q: I have made an account, but i can't log in to the game.
A: Make sure you are logging in with your account name and not your display name.
Q: Did you guys "crack" the game?
A: No, the game worked before we found it. We created our own application to communicate with the game, but we didn't modify the game executable at all. The only change to game files is a configuration file edit that tells the client where to get the server list.
